TECHNIQUE
Whistler probably drew on the pocket-sized plate for Wimpole Street on the spot and then completed the plate by etching it in the studio.
PRINTING
Only two impressions of Wimpole Street have been located. Both were printed in dark brown ink with delicately wiped surface tone (), one on cream 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper with the watermark 'P' (). They are trimmed to the platemark and signed on a tab with the butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
