PRINTING
Rag Shop, St Martin's Lane is very rare. Impressions were printed in black ink; the first proof was printed on ivory laid paper, selectively wiped - the image is fairly clean, but there is darker tone around it, particularly at the left and right edges (). Another, annotated in an unknown hand 'First Impr.' is likewise in black on ivory laid paper (). All are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that they had been printed by Whistler.
