TECHNIQUE
The plate for Jubilee Place, Chelsea was executed in pure etching, and there is evidence of foul biting throughout the image in the form of scattered dots and flecks.
PRINTING
Impressions are on a variety of papers. One is in dark brown ink on ivory laid paper with a crowned 'GR' countermark (the Pro Patria / MVD countermark) (), and two on cream 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper with the countermark 'PD' (,). Others were in black ink, one on ivory laid paper with a foolscap watermark () and two on Japan paper (, ). All are trimmed to the platemark and signed on a tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
