STATE
Three states are known before cancellation.
State 1
Signed with a butterfly at upper left.
The composition is complete.
State 2
The seated woman's head is changed -- her chin is rounded, and her head and hair are enlarged at the top and back; light diagonal drypoint shading is added under her forearm and on the cloth that hangs below her hand; several short diagonal lines are added above the end of her sleeve.
State 3
The seated woman's head appears to have been rebitten, reinforcing and darkening the outline of her profile; a patch of foul biting appears across her forehead along with two small dark spots at her temple and above her ear; the drypoint outlines that enlarged her head are reduced or worn.
