DESCRIPTION
A courtyard surrounded by a colonnade, with large windows, the central one being crowned with a pediment. In the centre is an archway through to a second courtyard. There is a lantern in the shadowed arcade, to left of the arch. In the open courtyard, in the foreground, stand two smartly dressed women and a girl, and further away two women are standing near a woman bending over a hand-cart. At the right stands an open carriage about to enter the passageway, while another carriage is driving through the passage.
SITE
The view is from the Place Colette in Paris, looking north through the archway into the south court of the Palais Royal. To the right of the etched view (i.e. to the left of the actual view, and out of sight) is the site of the Comédie Française on the west side of the Place Colette.
