EXHIBITIONS
It was not, as far as is known, exhibited in Whistler's life time. An impression was shown in New York by H. Wunderlich & Co. in 1903 (), bought by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), and lent to the exhibition at the Grolier Club in 1904. 12
12: New York 1903b (cat. no. 243); New York 1904a (cat. no. 347).
SALES & COLLECTORS
Whistler sold impressions to London print dealers first: to Thomas M. McLean (b. ca 1832) on 17 May and 22 August 1887 and two to Messrs Dowdeswell on 27 July 1887 at £3.3.0 each. 13 He then sold an impression on 3 May 1888 through the New York print dealers H. Wunderlich & Co. to Ross Revillon Winans (1850-1912) for £4.4.0. 14 Wunderlich's also sold an impression to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) on 20 March 1903 (), and Obach's in London sold Freer another on 11 July 1903 - a few days before Whistler's death ().
