The Dray-Horse dates from 1886 or 1887. It was first recorded as sold on 17 May 1887. 1
1: Whistler to T. McLean, GUW #13011.
According to Mansfield, 'Mr Pennell says that this was etched at St. Germain, in 1893.' 2
Joseph Pennell (1860-1926) may have known the site but was completely wrong about the date.
2: Mansfield 1909 (cat. no. 436).
