The Little Wheelwright's probably dates from 1886. The butterfly signature confirms this date.
If, as is thought, this shows Dordrecht, it dates from the same time as several other etchings of Dordrecht : Dordrecht
[259], Little Dordrecht
[260] and Barges, Dordrecht
[262]. Whistler first sold two Dordrecht etchings in November 1886. 1 However, this one was not named specifically.
