PRINTING
Few impressions of this drypoint have been located. The first proof was printed in black ink on cream wove paper () and the second state, also in black, on ivory laid paper (). An impression of the third state was printed in brown ink with soft tone carefully wiped to suggest sky and water, on off-white laid paper. (). Finally, two fourth state impressions were printed in dark brown ink on 'modern' (post-1800) laid paper () and black ink on ivory laid paper (). Different ink colours and the use of plate tone resulted in subtly varied atrmospheric effects.
