STATE
Three states are known before cancellation.
State 1
There is no signature or inscription.
The lower third of the image has traces of figures, patches of scraping and burnishing and a series of acid droplets curving from the lower right edge to the centre at bottom.
State 2
The scraping and burnishing marks on the lower third of the plate have been cleaned and the acid droplets partly removed; faint traces of figures remain, as do traces of the acid droplets at lower right.
The remnants of figures and acid droplets are almost indiscernible on some impressions.
Published in this and the following state by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau with the Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886.
