Bead Stringers was etched in Venice, Italy, probably between June and October 1880. The site was near the Casa Jankowitz where Whistler went to stay in the summer of 1880.
It was published by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau with the Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886.
