STATE

Four states are known before cancellation.

State 1

Impression: K1920102
Signed with a butterfly, at upper left, on the wall of the leftmost building.
The composition is mostly complete; there are two partly drawn figures of women at the centre in the foreground.

State 2

Impression: K1920202
New shading is added to the wall of the leftmost building, most notably around the upper and lower windows at left; more shading is added throughout the composition, particularly to reflections on the water, shadows by the figures, nets hanging on the boom of the boat at the centre, and to the gondolier and gondola, which now is completed.

State 3

Impression: K1920207
The two partly drawn women at centre are removed.

State 4

Impression: K1920305
With new heavy shading to right of the lower window on the wall of the leftmost building; fine shading is added to the nets hanging over the boom of the boat at centre; fine lines, representing ripples, are added to the water between the barge and the prow of the gondola.
The fine lines on the water between the barge and gondola are very faint on many impressions.

State 4 (cancelled)

Impression: K1920401
Cancelled with crossed diagonal lines over the entire image.
