TECHNIQUE
Drawn in drypoint with patches of irregular shading between slightly wavering repeated outlines. Only the house front at left, including the gable, is drawn in some detail, showing the patterns of the half-timbered construction.
PRINTING
Only three impressions of Speke Hall have been located, all on different old papers, all printing with a soft burr. The 'first proof' is in black ink on buff 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper (). Another is on ivory laid paper with the 'DE ERVEN DE BLAUW' watermark (), and the third on cream 'antique' laid paper with a watermark, possibly Brittania, and 'IVC' ().
