STATE

One state is known before cancellation.

State 1

Impression: K1310102
There is no signature or inscription.
The impression illustrated was printed with heavy plate tone, wiped selectively to create a lighter 'halo' around the figure (Graphic with a link to impression #K0010102).

State 2 (cancelled)

Impression: K1310202
Patches of close diagonal shading are added on the face, changing her appearance to that of a man with beard and moustache. This fine drypoint work may have preceded the loose zigzag lines that formally cancel the plate.
Published in the 'Cancelled Set' by the Fine Art Society, London, 1879.
