KEYWORD
TITLE
Possibly 'Draped figure sitting' (1877, Charles Augustus Howell (1840?-1890)). 2
'Seated Girl' (1881, Union League Club). 3
'Seated Girl' (1886, Frederick Wedmore (1844-1921)). 4
'Seated Girl' (1890/1892, Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896)). 5
'Seated Girl' (1909, Howard Mansfield (1849-1938)). 6
'Seated Model' (2010, Whistler Etching Project).
The trouble with the generally accepted title is that the subject is a woman, not a girl. She is a model dressed in draperies, rather than contemporary dress. Accordingly, ' Model Seated', is the preferred title.
