TECHNIQUE
An unfinished study, in both etching and drypoint.
PRINTING
It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879. All known impressions are from the cancelled plate. They were almost certainly printed in 1879, probably in a print-run of about twenty. They are usually printed in black ink on ivory laid paper (i.e. , , ). Watermarks included Van Gelder (, , ), Strasbourg Lily (, , ) and partial Strasbourg Lily showing the horned crown ().
