TECHNIQUE
An unfinished sketch in drypoint.
PRINTING
No impression from the uncancelled plate is known. It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879. Cancelled impressions are all printed in black ink, on papers including cream wove (); Strasbourg Lily watermarked laid () and cream 'modern' (post-1800) laid paper with Van Gelder watermark (). One () is cut from the same sheet of ivory laid Van Gelder paper as three other cancelled etchings (, , , ).
