The copper plate has no maker's mark and is not close in size to any other plate. It was one of two French subjects published with the 'Thames Set' in 1871. It was cancelled with diagonal, vertical and horizonal lines crossing in the centre.
The plate was acquired by F. Keppel & Co., and then, with other plates from the 'Thames Set' by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) in 1896 and was bequeathed by Freer to the Freer Gallery of Art. 12
