STATE
Two states are known before cancellation.
State 1
Signed 'Whistler.' and dated '1859.' at lower right, and also signed 'Whistler.', faintly, at lower left.
The composition is complete; there are only horizontal or slightly slanting lines on the wall at the right, between the lime-burner and the longer ladders.
State 2
The faint drypoint signature at lower left has been mostly removed, and the edge of the plate along the bottom has been cleaned; light perpendicular drypoint lines are added to right of the shoulder of the lime-burner.
Published in the 'Thames Set' in this state.
