The copper plate bears the manufacturer's stamp of HUGHES & KIMBER / MANUFACTURERS / RED LION SQUARE / FLEET STREET / LONDON' on the verso.
The plate for The Pool
[49], exactly the same size and with the same stamp, was presumably bought at the same time explicitly for the 'Thames Set'. The plate for Old Hungerford Bridge
[76], from the same maker, is close in size, though marginally smaller.
The copper plate is cancelled with four vertical lines crossed by two diagonal lines. The plate was bought by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) in 1896 and bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art.The plate was published with the 'Thames Set' in 1871. 18
