Two states are known before cancellation.
State 1
Signed 'Whistler.' and inscribed 'Greenwich - 1859.' at lower right.
State 2
Horizontal lines are added at the extreme top; the outline of the right arm and hand is heavier.
In most impressions, including the one reproduced, there are a lot of small specks of foul biting.

Cancelled with zigzag lines across the figure.
