TECHNIQUE

This was done in both etching and drypoint. Kennedy mentions that his example of the third state 'is partly drawn upon.' 11 This has not been located.

11: Kennedy 1910 (cat. no. 31).

PRINTING

Over two dozen impressions, mostly of the second state, are in public collections.
Most impressions are printed in black or warm black ink on laid paper; for instance, a first state (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310211) and second state (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310209) with a few in brown ink (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310217, Graphic with a link to impression #K0310203, Graphic with a link to impression #K0310221). A very fine impression, notable for its strong contrasts and the subtlety of the fine lines, is in black ink on ivory watermarked laid paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310202). Another good impression in black ink is on Japanese paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310215) while the artist retained an interesting impression in black on buff medium-weight fibrous wove paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K0310205).
