EXHIBITIONS
It was first exhibited in 1900, when Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) lent his impression for the exhibition organised by the Caxton Club, Chicago (
). 12 This was, as far as is known, the only exhibition in Whistler's lifetime.
After the artist's death, an impression was shown at Obach's in London in 1903, Howard Mansfield (1849-1938) lent his impression to exhibitions in Boston in 1904 and 1910 (). In 1904, an impression was also shown at the Grolier Club, New York and Herbert Charles Jerome Pollitt (1871-1942) lent one to the Whistler Memorial Exhibition in London in 1905. 13

Howard Mansfield (1849-1938) lent one to exhibitions from 1904 on (). One may have been owned by the Royal Collection, Windsor, and was certainly owned later by Henry Harper Benedict (1844-1935) (). Benedict is also said to have owned an impression that was later bequeathed to Cornell University by William P. Chapman Jr ().
