Provenance:Probably sold by Whistler on either 28 April 1887 or 21 January 1889 to Walter Dowdeswell; C.W. Dowdeswell, London; Sir John Day, London; bought from Obach & Co. (receipt 22 September 1906) by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), Detroit, MI, 1906; bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, 1919.

Print note:This is the fourth 'state' in the series of impressions of K147 in the FGA; it appears to conform to the illustration of Kennedy's eighth state (but there are clearly more than eight states given the interim states among the other FGA impressions)
