Provenance:Published in a set of 57 cancelled plates by the Fine Art Society, London, 1879. Alphonse Wyatt Thibaudeau (ca 1840 - d.1892); Thibaudeau sale, Sotheby's, London, 13 December 1889 (lot 787 or 789), sold to Robert Dunthorne, London, for £0.6.0; acquired by Miss Rosalind Birnie Philip in exchange transaction; bequeathed to the University of Glasgow, 1958.

Print note:The drypoint lines have broken down giving the image an unfocused appearance. The image is flecked with ink spots. There are smudgy ink spots, possibly from broken down burr, giving mottled effect, particularly in the sky.

Birnie Philip'. Inscribed on the binding of the volume is 'WHISTLER'S ETCHINGS'. In front of volume, : 'R D Dunthorne', 'SN 434 49 - 789'
