Provenance:Probably acquired from Whistler by Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910), London; bought from Hermann Wunderlich & Co., New York, (receipt, 9 November 1898), by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), Detroit, MI, November 1898; bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, 1919.

Print note:The impression is beautiful, with the lines showing some burr, and conveying langour and grace; her eyes are dreamy and thoughtful. It is in pure etching except for lines of skirt at left and, possibly, at right; or, are these etched lines with that were not completely wiped? note topographical style of etched view of Paris in distance at left--similar to coast survey work.
