Print note:A beautiful impression ; facial features of heads sketched below figure are mostly burnished out but general shapes and some hair remain visible; new drypoint work has fair amount of burr; dark spots of foul biting have been removed so impression is similar to Kennedy's illustration of state 2

Notes on inscriptions:M. Smith records previously existing inscription 'S.H.' in graphite (erased 1924.3.31) as well as an inscription by Haden on mount, 'Bibi Valentin. Valentin pere is an engraver in whose house Whistler did his first etching.' She also records another inscription, G.D.G., 1921: This note has not reference to the etching, which had evidently been mounted on an old Bibi Valentin mount when it came from the dealer's.'
