Provenance:Plate bequeathed by Whistler to his executrix, Miss Rosalind Birnie Philip, 1903; printed for her by Nathaniel Sparks (1880-1956), Bristol, 1931; this impression bequeathed by her to the University of Glasgow, 1958.

Print tone:There is a medium, uneven print tone that is more pronounced towards the edges, particularly the upper doorway.  
Note on foul biting:There is an area of foul biting at the lower edge and a mark from the grip of a tool at the right side. There is individual pitting.  
Print note:On the door some of the lines have printed poorly, perhaps due to clogged lines on the plate. At the upper right there is a white mark where a hair has interupted the ink during printing. The ink has seeped through to the verso. There are scratch marks from wiping at the corners and edges.
