Church Interior may date from between 1888 and 1894. The butterfly signature is consistent with these dates.
It is also dated from the copper plate, which is one of a small group made by C. Servant, in Paris, including
Sunflowers, Marché St Germain, Paris [437],
Under the Statue, Luxembourg Gardens [464],
Antony's Print Shop, Rue de Seine [477],
Mme Pelletier, Blanchisserie, Paris [481],
Boulevard Poissonière, Paris [483],
Café Corazza, Paris [484], and
Sleeping Child, Ajaccio [488], which date from between 1888 and 1901. Most of these are Paris subjects; the plates must have been bought in France and may have been among plates left in Whistler's Paris studio when he moved to London.
