Weary

1863
Drypoint on Asian paper
K.92 (2/3)
Presented by Patricia Cornwell, 2001
Hunterian Art Gallery, GLAHA 54093

This portrait of Whistler's mistress Joanna Hiffernan was drawn entirely in drypoint, from the delicate strokes that caress her face to the rich burr of the velvety bodice.

Several distinguished connoisseurs owned this beautiful impression. Each stamped it with his collector's mark on the verso - after B.B. MacGeorge it was owned by a number of American collectors before returning to Glasgow as a gift from the author Patricia Cornwell.
