The master-printer Auguste Delâtre (1822-1907) printed Whistler's Douze eaux-fortes d'aprčs Nature (the 'French Set') in Paris and the 'Thames Set' in London. He instructed Whistler in etching and printing techniques. For instance, Delâtre advocated correcting and enriching etched lines with drypoint. Whistler admired Delâtre and dedicated this etching to his wife.
