George Augustus Sala was an artist, journalist and critic. Sala was married twice, to Harriet in September 1859 and to Bessie Stannard in 1891.

Life:

Journalist, critic and illustrator, Sala was the art critic of the Daily Telegraph between about the 1860s and 1890s and a friend of JW. He also wrote for Household Words and All the Year Round. He was a war correspondent during the Crimean War (1854-6), the American Civil War (1861-1865) and a foreign correspondent. He lived at 12 The Terrace, Putney from late 1867 to 1876 and 32 Great College Street, Camden Town in 1869.
