DESCRIPTION

A panorama of Venice, seen across the water, where, at the right, are two gondolas and a boat under sail. To left of centre rise the domes of Santa Maria della Salute, with buildings at the right and with shipping in front. Across the Grand canal at the left are buildings slightly indicated, and at far right is a church with a dome.

SITE

A panorama including, to left of centre, the church of Santa Maria della Salute on the Grand Canal in the city of Venice, Italy. The view is as usual reversed - that is, Whistler drew it direct from nature on the copper plate, but it appears in reverse in prints.
