SALES & COLLECTORS
On 8 June 1903 an impression of this etching, recorded as 'Rue de Vannes Paris', was sold by Whistler for £10.10.0 to the London print dealer Robert Dunthorne (b. ca 1851). Whistler was very ill and died shortly after this; it is likely that this sale was recorded by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958). 9 This impression was bought by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) () who bequeathed it to the Freer Gallery of Art in 1919.
9: [17 June 1903], GUW #13042.
Another impression was in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed by the artist to Miss Birnie Philip () who in her turn bequeathed it to the University of Glasgow in 1958.
The only other known impression was with P. & D. Colnaghi in the 1930s, and was bought by Margaret Selkirk Watson Parker (1867-1936), who bequeathed it to the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor in 1954 ().
