STATE

Four states are known before cancellation.

State 1

Etching: K4190102
Signed with a butterfly between the windows to left of the central doorway.

State 2

Etching: K4190203
The light areas in the windows to right of the butterfly are lightly shaded; the area to right of the bending woman inside the open doorway is shaded, and light diagonal shading is added to the shelving behind her; additional shading crosses the spaces between the two signs and around the seated woman in the oyster shop.

State 3

Etching: K4190207
Shading and cross-hatching between the signs extends to the profile of the seated woman; new light drypoint shading crosses the torso of the bending woman in the doorway and the shadows behind her head.

State 4

Etching: K4190205
Drypoint shading is extended to upper right just above the shoulder of the bending women, and additional shading darkens the area in front of her face to left.

State 4 (cancelled)

Etching: PS_K419_01
Cancelled with a diagonal line.

No impression from the cancelled plate is known. This is a digital image based on the copper plate. 11

11: A scan of the copper plate was flipped horizontally, converted to greyscale, and colour inverted, with enhanced contrast.
