TECHNIQUE
Lightly etched lines and drypoint, with patches of shading, creating an atmospheric web of shifting shadows.
PRINTING
Mansfield thought there were only two impressions (, ). 10 However, the artist also bequeathed an impression to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958)

One, possibly the first proof, is in black ink on buff paper (). The next, marked '2nd Proof', is in dark brown ink, lightly inked, on ivory laid paper (). The impression Whistler kept
() is also a light, delicate impression in dark brown ink on ivory laid paper with a partial Strasbourg Lily watermark.
