The copper plate has no maker's stamp. However, it is similar in size to several plates dating from 1888 including Courtyard, Rue P. L. Courier, Tours 391, Doorway, Stables - Loches 416, Rue des Bons Enfants, Tours 392, Children, Amboise 432, Market Women, Loches 423, Tour Saint Antoine, Loches 414, and Windows, Bourges 398.
It was in Whistler's studio at his death and was given to the University of Glasgow by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958). It was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the lower left corner.
