TECHNIQUE

It is pure etching, drawn with bold, vigorous lines and shaded with both cross-hatching and zig-zag shading. There are also short curved and angular hooked lines depicting people and animals.

PRINTING

Only two impressions of Place Daumont, Tours have been located. One is printed in dark brown ink on cream 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper with a very slight greenish tint () and the other in black ink on ivory laid paper (). Both are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
