The copper plate bears the maker's oval stamp: 'HUGHES & KIMBER (LIMITED) / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.' It is the same size as other 1887 plates including Wimpole Street 279, The Baby, Gray's Inn 288, The Little Hat 366 and one of 1888, Windows opposite Hotel, Bourges 397.
The plate of Children's Fruit Barrow was in Whistler's studio at his death and was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), who gave it to the University of Glasgow in 1935. The plate was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line from to right of the upper left corner, to slightly to left of the centre of the lower edge.
