TECHNIQUE

The plate for The Dray Horse was executed in pure etching. Many small dots across the image indicate that there was considerable foul biting.

PRINTING

Very few impressions have been located although records suggest that at least five were printed and sold by Whistler. Two of these are in black ink, one on tan and the other on cream laid paper, which give it a warm overall tone (, ).
