STATE

Three states are known.

State 1

Etching: K1730102
There is no signature or inscription.
The composition is basically complete, but the buildings are only shaded by vertical lines; and the foreground barges are not shaded.

State 2

Etching: K1730201
Signed with a butterfly at lower right.
Light vertical drypoint lines are added on the sides of the barges at right, and horizontal lines indicate the reflections of the barges.

State 3

Etching: K1730303
The butterfly and clouds are worn; rows of diagonal lines are added on the tarpaulins covering the barges in front of the posts, and cross-hatched lines to right of the post at left; the stern of the barge between the posts is shaded; the reflections of the central barge are strengthened; short horizontal lines are added on the post at left and on the wharf-post; short diagonal lines shade the side of the nearest vessel across the water; cross-hatching is added on the buildings; sailing ships are added in the distance at the right, and rigging and other details on the other vessels.
