Steamboats off the Tower probably dates from 1875. Whistler wrote on one impression, 'From the Custom House - Thames; 75.' (). Furthermore, Beatrice Whistler later listed a drypoint, probably this one, as 'Steamboat off Tower, dry point. 1875'. 1

The butterfly monogram is of the form used by Whistler between 1874 and 1875. The Two Ships 143 is of a similar date.
