PRINTING
There is only one known impression of the first state, a working proof in black ink on ivory 'antique' (pre-1800) laid paper with a countermark, possibly 'RK' (). It was printed with heavy ink tone, wiped clean around the figure.
It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879. Most impressions are in the cancelled state, which was printed in black ink, usually on a cream or ivory laid paper. Watermarks include Van Gelder (, ) and Strasbourg Lily (). There may have been a print-run of about 24.
