TECHNIQUE

A drypoint, drawn with patches of quite long parallel strokes of shading in the background, and much lighter, shorter strokes on the figure.

PRINTING

There appear to have been very few impressions. Two impressions of this drypoint (before cancellation) have been located, both printed in black ink, the first on cream laid paper with a 'DEDB' and beehive watermark (), the second on an ivory light-weight Japanese paper with long uneven fibres (). No impression of the third state has been located.
It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society, London, 1879, probably in an edition of about 20. Most impressions are from the cancelled plate, mostly on laid paper, including one on a cream laid paper with Van Gelder watermark (), and another with a Strasbourg Lily watermark ().
