STATE

Two states are known before cancellation.

State 1

Etching: K1020203
Signed with a butterfly at right.

State 2

Etching: K1020202
Heavy, slightly slanting drypoint lines are added in the background to left of the figure, and around the head to the left shoulder; short diagonal lines are added to the shading under the left hand and wrist.
In the impression reproduced, Whister inked only the area near the lines, rather than inking the entire plate, resulting in a 'halo' effect. In another impression the lower part of the plate was again not inked so that Leyland's legs gradually disappear ().

State 2 (cancelled)

Etching: K1020302
Cancelled with diagonal lines on the top half of the figure, and a zigzag line running right down the figure.
