Etching: K0810104
Signed 'Whistler.' and dated '1861.' at lower right.
The composition is complete; remnants of an earlier subject are visible at lower right.

State 2

Etching: K0810102

Three left to right diagonals (\\\) are added to the bottom of the man's right trouser leg; the wildflower at left of the clump of three at the bottom consists of burr on a crooked line.

State 3 (cancelled)

Etching: K0810203
Cancelled lightly with crossed diagonal lines.

State 3 (after cancellation)

Etching: K0810110
The plate shows signs of deterioration; cancellation lines have been reduced or disguised in printing.
