Millbank is dated '1861' on the copper plate. The shadows suggest a time about mid-day, with the sun fairly high in the sky. Lochnan suggested it was done in the early Spring, before The Little Pool 079. 1

This is one of a number of Thames views etched in 1861, including Vauxhall Bridge 075, Westminster Bridge in Progress 077, The Little Pool 079, Battersea Dawn (Cadogan Pier) 095 and Old Hungerford Bridge 076. Four of these 1861 etchings - Millbank, The Little Pool, Early Morning, Battersea and Old Hungerford Bridge - were published in A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on the Thames (the 'Thames Set'), by Ellis & Green in 1871. Millbank was used to advertise the first exhibition of the 'Thames Set' in 1861. 2
