Bibi Lalouette is signed and dated '1859' on the copper plate.
Whistler made a number of portraits in Paris in 1859 including Bibi Valentin 034, Z. Astruc, Editor of 'L'Artiste' 036, Whistler with a hat 044, C. L. Drouet, Sculptor 035, Fumette standing 059, Fumette's Bent Head 058 and Finette 061. Of these Bibi Valentin is the most closely related in subject, scale and technique.
