TECHNIQUE

Seymour, Standing was done in pure etching. The treatment of the face is similar to other early portraits of the Haden children. There are extensive signs of burnishing creating a faint area of texture in the background, which, apart from the light shadow to left, is blank.

PRINTING

There are only two impressions known (, ). The first state is printed in black ink on cream 'modern' (post-1800) laid paper. The second state, also in black ink, was printed on ivory chine on off-white wove paper (chine collé).
