Impressions taken from this plate  (1)
Woman sleeping in a chair may date from 1888 or the early 1890s.
Copper plates of a similar size and make (including Stéphane Mallarmé 462, Market Women: Turkeys 424, Theatre, Loches 418, Hôtel de la Promenade, Loches 415 and Mrs J. Birnie Philip 479), date from between 1887 and 1896.
The technique and the form of the butterfly signature suggest a date from 1888 or slightly later - definitely after Whistler's marriage. The costume, with slightly full sleeves, suggests a similar date, possibly the early 1890s. However, the details are not sufficiently clear to make this certain.
